Rice Counting

Today, I got 1000 grains of rice in WWW.freerice.com/ which donates free rice to hungry people all over the world. After that David made me count out how many grains of rice are in a tablespoon of rice. It turned out that there are 500 grains of rice in a tablespoon of uncooked rice so 2 tablespoons rice is 1000 grans of rice.

We wanted to know how much rice a single person eats in a single meal. We guessed that one cup is about right. So we calculated that 1 cup of cooked rice is about 5000 grains.

Then since we were on a roll we calculated some prices for mulch. One cubic yard is 27 cubic feet. We learned that it is much cheaper to buy mulch in bags then having it delivered in bulk.

discovery world

David and I went to Discovery World on Wednesday 20th of may. At Discovery World I used the dream machine to make a little foam fish. Then I went to the driving simulator, and I only flipped once. After the simulator we went to the aquarium where we both drove a little under water bot around a little tank of water and David petted the fish. After Discovery World we went to see Star Trek.

Water Testing for Dissolved Oxygen

David and I did water testing on the Milwaukee River from the back yard dock.

We did the testing at 11:30 on 5/19/2009.

We needed to do the testing to make sure that the river is healthy.

We used a Hasch water testing kit. Here are the results

Welcome to My Milwaukee Visit Blog

welcome to my blog of my trip to Milwaukee.

I took the train from Minneapolis Minnesota to the Milwaukee station.
After I got to David and Diane's house we took a canoe trip down river to the dam.

On Sunday May 17, 2009 we took a canoe trip down the Milwaukee River.

As we padded down the river I noticed that most of the islands were very wild and the shore was covered in crusted mud along with rocks. Most of the houses along the river were very well kept up and a lot had boat houses. We also saw lots of ducks and geese.

We left the river before the dam. The dam consists of 4 parts;

  1. The concrete and metal part (the main part of the dam)
  2. The spillway
  3. The shark’s teeth
  4. The portage
